E-Mentoring for Career Investment Scholarship Students
Provided though grants from Travelers and Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America
This exciting, unique program involves an online mentorship arrangement between a business professional and a first-year college student who received one of our Career Investment Scholarships.
Mentors serve as role models who help students achieve their goals by encouraging self-reliance and efficiency.
Benefits to the student:
• Promotes the successful transition from high school to college
• Provides another adult role model in the youth's life
• Educates students about career choices and the skills necessary to become a valuable employee
Benefits to you, the mentor:
• Increases awareness of diverse workers
• Builds a strong future workforce
• Reduces the training costs of preparing new employees for the workplace
Sample e-Mentoring Curriculum
The curriculum includes:
• Self assessment tool – the DiSC® Profile is used to help understand behaviors and their impacts in different environments (school, work, family)
• Writing an e-mail for business vs. casual correspondence
• Career choices – matching industries and fields of work with the needs of regional employers
• Resume development, job search and follow-up
• Interviewing techniques
