Leadership Institute:
Leadership Saint Paul
Applied Leadership
Academy - Talent In. Leaders Out.
The Foundation supports its mission of “building strong leaders” through its Leadership Institute. The Leadership Institute is the umbrella for all adult leadership programs in the foundation and promotes an entrepreneurial approach with programming. Fee-based programs that have been long standing under the Institute include
Leadership Saint Paul™– a year-long, one day per month cohort group of 45 emerging leaders with our objectives for them to connect for future collaboration with other handpicked leaders in large businesses to small businesses, non-profits, and the public sector; to cultivate new skills and knowledge; and to contribute to the Saint Paul East Metro Area through performing service projects with non-profits then ensuring the future health of the Saint Paul/East Metro Area. Our Leadership Saint Paul program is over 26 years old and its alumni number well over 1,200 including well-known leaders such as Chief John Harrington and Senator Mee Moua. Our commitment to small business, non-profits is evidenced by providing over $10,500 in scholarship assistance in just the past three years of this program.
Additionally, we currently partner and offer the Mayor’s Leadership Academy with the City of Saint Paul. This leadership program was designed to assist in building an inter-departmental teamwork frame of mind. It has been offered through both Mayor Kelly and now Mayor Coleman’s office.
Through focus groups conducted in fall 2005 with our Chamber membership we learned that they are seeking a leadership program for middle level managers and small business owners that focus on “applied skills” (problem solving, creative thinking, etc.). And a program for entry level staff is being developed that would teach “soft skills” to front line office staff such as telephone skills, handling customers, office decorum, etc.
